Chocolate Covered Pears (Printable)

Ripe pears dipped in rich dark chocolate and sprinkled with flaky sea salt.

# What You'll Need:

→ Fruit

01 - 3 ripe but firm pears

→ Chocolate Coating

02 - 7 oz dark chocolate (70% cocoa or higher), chopped
03 - 1 tbsp coconut oil or unsalted butter

→ Garnish (optional)

04 - 2 tbsp chopped toasted nuts (pistachios, almonds, or hazelnuts)
05 - Flaky sea salt

# How To Make It:

01 - Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
02 - Wash and thoroughly dry the pears. Cut each pear in half lengthwise and remove the core with a spoon or melon baller.
03 - Set a heatproof bowl over a pot of simmering water to create a double boiler. Add the dark chocolate and coconut oil or butter, stirring constantly until completely smooth and melted. Remove from heat.
04 - Hold each pear half by the stem or with a fork. Dip the cut side into the melted chocolate, allowing excess chocolate to drip off.
05 - Place the chocolate-covered pears cut side up on the prepared baking sheet.
06 - Sprinkle with chopped toasted nuts and a pinch of flaky sea salt, if desired.
07 - Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or until the chocolate is completely set. Serve chilled or at room temperature.

# Expert Suggestions:

01 -
  • The contrast between juicy, sweet pears and bittersweet dark chocolate creates something far more sophisticated than the sum of its parts
  • Sea salt on chocolate is one of those combinations that once you try, you wonder how you ever lived without it
02 -
  • The pears must be completely dry before dipping or the chocolate will clump and turn grainy instead of smooth
  • Work quickly once the chocolate is melted, as it starts to set up fast and becomes difficult to dip evenly
03 -
  • Warm your pears slightly in the microwave for 10 seconds before dipping if theyre cold from the fridge
  • Use a fork to make decorative waves in the chocolate before it sets
