- Spread 1 tablespoon softened butter evenly on one side of each bread slice.
- Place two bread slices butter-side down on a clean work surface. Spread 2 tablespoons pizza sauce over the unbuttered side of each slice.
- Arrange mozzarella slices over the sauce, followed by pepperoni if using. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese, dried oregano, and dried basil.
- Top with remaining bread slices, buttered side facing up, to form two complete sandwiches.
- Heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat for 2–3 minutes until hot.
- Place sandwiches in the hot skillet. Cook for 3–4 minutes per side, pressing gently with a spatula, until bread is golden brown and cheese is fully melted.
- Remove from skillet and let cool for 1–2 minutes. Slice diagonally and serve immediately with extra pizza sauce for dipping.
